ICU a Critical Success
For Jane Moore, clinical resource nurse, Critical Care Unit, that happened when an elderly couple arrived at the ICU following a nasty fall. Towards evening the couple’s son told Jane how badly his father felt about leaving his injured wife overnight. When told he could spend the night on one of the fold-down chairs right next to his wife, he could hardly believe it.
“It was so appreciated that he could spend the night and be close to her,” says Jane. “If he’d gone home, he’d have been awake all night wondering how she was doing.”
“Now we have proper rooms and windows that staff and patients can see out of. Privacy for patients and families is much improved and we have the newest technology, from hi-tech beds to monitoring systems. We even have a quiet room and a waiting room for families,” says Jane. “All those things come from donor support.”
