A Note of Remembrance
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Patricia Million on December 30. It was a privilege to share Patricia’s story as part of our holiday appeal, highlighting her belief in the power of monthly giving to ensure care is always there when it’s needed most.
Patricia’s generosity, compassion, and lifelong connection to local healthcare reflect the very heart of this appeal. We honour her memory and are grateful for the lasting impact she made through her commitment to our hospital and community.
A Message from our Vice-Chair
As we look ahead to a new year, I find myself reflecting on what truly matters most: family, community, and the comfort of knowing that quality healthcare is here when we need it most.
My name is Fritz Steigmeier, and not only do I serve as Vice-Chair of the Stratford General Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, I’m also a proud monthly donor. Each month, my gift is a small way of giving back to the hospital that has cared for my family, friends, and neighbours for years.
As you consider your hopes and intentions for the year ahead, I invite you to think about joining me as a Circle of Care monthly donor. It’s a simple, meaningful resolution — one that helps ensure exceptional care continues for every patient, every day.
The Stratford General Hospital Foundation raises funds to support the highest priority needs of the Stratford General Hospital site of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance. Beginning the year as a monthly donor is a powerful way to make a lasting difference.
Patricia’s Story: Care That Changed a Life
![]()
Patricia’s journey is one of many made possible by care close to home.
In October 1966, she was in a serious car accident that shattered the bones of her right arm. Dr. McDermott, a physician with experience treating wartime injuries, refused to let her undergo an amputation.
Over several days and seven surgeries, he carefully reconstructed her arm. Her rehabilitation came with a simple yet daunting instruction: touch your thumb to each finger a million times each day. After two months, she could finally return to what she loved most, teaching children.
Today, Patricia continues her pledge to support the hospital as a Circle of Care monthly donor.
“Monthly giving is easy, predictable, and powerful. I know my gift will support patients and families every month. It’s not about the size of the gift. It’s about the power in numbers. If everyone gave just a little, the impact would be enormous.”
Grateful for the care that saved her arm and shaped her life, her commitment extends far beyond giving: she volunteered for more than 20 years, served as both a Hospital and Foundation Trustee, and remains one of our most passionate cheerleaders.
Why Your Gift Matters
While the Province of Ontario provides strong operational support, government funding does not cover:
New and replacement medical equipment
Vital infrastructure upgrades
Many of the innovations that enhance patient care
That’s where generosity from donors like you becomes essential. Your support ensures our care teams have the tools, spaces, and training they need to deliver exceptional healthcare close to home.
Prefer a One-Time Gift?
Every contribution, whether made once or throughout the year, strengthens care for patients and families across our community. If a one-time gift feels right for you today, please know it will have an immediate impact on the equipment, spaces, and innovations that support exceptional care close to home.
Add a Message to Our Giving Trees
This season, donors have the option to add an ornament to our Giving Trees in honour or memory of someone who has touched their life. If you would like your gift to include an ornament and a personal message of thanks or tribute, simply include a note with your donation, and we will display it warmly on the tree.
Together, we can make this new year one of care, compassion, and community.
Thank you for helping to ensure the best possible healthcare is always close to home.
With gratitude,
Fritz Steigmeier
